Quality action all the way this weekend

- IAIN FERGUSON

Horses with some excellent recent form at Ayr feature in several interesting races this weekend and a few are well worth a punt.

I begin by focusing on a filly who produced one of the best performances of the Flat season so far at the Craigie track when winning the EBF Land O’Burns Filles’ Stakes on June 22 for Michael Dods and Paul Mulrennan.

One of her subsequent runs saw her go down by only a length to the mighty Battaash in the Nunthorpe, although she ran no sort of race last time out in a Group 1 at the Curragh.

She runs in the Rous Stakes at Ascot and if back to her best should go close.

Also on the Ascot card the QTS Ayr Gold Cup hero Nahaarr holds an entry in the Group 3 Bengough Stakes and on the evidence of the way he cut through the field to win at Ayra week past on Saturday he is definitely one to be on.

A third horse to note on the Ascot card is Jim Goldie’s Euchen Glen who was fourth in the Jordan Electrics Doonside Cup at Ayr on September 19.

He is due to run in the Group 3 Cumberland Lodge Stakes and I see no reason why he shouldn’t run into a place at big odds.

This horse doesn’t put in a bad performance and deserves his place in this type of race.

The biggest race in the north at the weekend is the Redcar Two Year Trophy Listed Race and the one I am all over ran fourth at Ayr in the EBF Nursery Handicap at Ayr on the Friday of the Gold Cup Festival.

Showalong from the Tim Easterby yard can bounce back with David Allan in the saddle. I am confident this colt, who has already won at Redcar, can run a huge race and the stable has a superb record in the race.

Finally I take Love to win the Prix de L’Arc De Triomphe at Longchamp on Sunday.

There’s no sentiment in racing so I don’t feel bad in opposing the amazing Enable.
