Apprentice Callum is proving a shining light for ambitious firm

-

A decorating firm has seen its first ever apprentice graduate and pass his trade exams.

Callum Davidson has been with Kilmarnock company Alpha Trade Solutions for two and a half years.

And he made company history by becoming their first recipient of an SVQ Level 6 in Painting and Decorating.

He becomes Alpha’s first fully qualified tradesman to have begun their working life as an apprentice.

Callum, of Kilmarnock, applied directly to the company to join their team and learn the trade with a local industry leader.

He said: “I’ve really enjoyed having the opportunity to learn a new trade.

“The most challenging skill for me to learn has been wallpapering, but my new colleagues have been great at helping me.

“I’ve really enjoyed working for Alpha Trade Solutions, and would strongly recommend anyone considering an apprenticeship to do so.”

Alpha Trade Solutions, owned by Kilmarnock pair Jared McCall and Jordan Rodgers, was launched after the partners first became friends whilst working together for a national company on ‘ the tools’ before later progressing into management roles with the same company.

Alpha have committed to employing four new apprentices per year and have a team of eight stong candidates due to complete their workbased learning programme in 2021.

“Both Jordan and myself believe that by investing in local talent at a grassroots level we can help improve the quality of tradesmen across the country, make a difference locally to local families and deliver our services to the best possible standard – whilst continuing to grow our business” said Jared.

As part of their continued success the firm, who were founded just over four years ago, have worked with a number of large commercial clients including Trump Turnberry, Kilmarnock Football Club, Aldi Stores across Scotland and Premier Inn.

Their main services are painting and decorating, Ames taping and maintenance support work with a wide range of clients from their Kilmarnock bases.

They’ve also recently expanded to have a second unit to help cope with the demand, regularly employing up to 40 people at a time.

“It is a pleasure to be able to build our business here in our hometown of Kilmarnock, invest in local people and build partnerships with amazing brands including Turnberry, and Kilmarnock Football Club” adds Jordan.
