IN NEED OF KERR

Ayr boss vows to lift his players for visit of Pars after Hallowe’en hell at Morton

- STUART WILSON

Stunned Mark Kerr has pledged to help his players bury all memories of their Hallowe’en horror show.

The shellshocked boss watched Ayr concede three goals in five minutes to crumble at Cappielow on Saturday.

But he insists they can prove it was a freak show by getting straight back on track.

Kerr told the Post: “People will look at it and say we’ve collapsed, but it’s just three individual errors that have done us.

“You work all week on dealing with the opposition and what they’ll throw at you and then that happens.

“It’s incredibly frustrating. “From middle to front, we looked brilliant at times on Saturday.

“But that doesn’t change the result and we’ve now gone and put unecessary pressure on ourselves.

“Yes we had 10 men and obviously that didn’t help, but it’s about defending basic straight balls into your box and we should have been able to do that.”

Kerr has quickly set about focusing his players on the visit of table topping Dunfermline this week. And he insisted: “It’s about getting confidence back into the boys.

“There’s no point battering them after this.

“If I thought our shape was wrong or we weren’t showing anything as a team, I’d be worried.

“But we played so well for so long on Saturday and to have nothing to show for that is frustrating.

“We know we’re playing well enough to be winning these games so that’s what we need to go and do.”

Ayr will miss Aaron Muirhead on Saturday following his red card at Cappielow.

And Kerr said: “When you watch it back, it could have been a yellow, but Aaron’s body shape has made it look worse than it was.

“But he’s given the ref a decision to make and that was the needless part of it.”

Dario Zanatta is now back in training, while Tom Walsh is targeting the League Cup game with Stranraer a week on Saturday for his return.
