New year and host of great new titles...

-

2020 was a bumper year for games; with so many people stuck at home, consoles/ PCs became man’s ( and woman’s) best friend, leading to a boom in game purchases.

However, 2020 also presented challenges for developers — Cyberpunk’s unfinished release was a major embarrassment — but with 2021 heralding a sense of hope, there are some titles on the horizon which will stir excitement.

Horizon: Forbidden West ( PS4/ 5) is one to look out for. A sequel to 2017’ s Horizon Zero Dawn, this game promises new lands to explore, and new mechanical enemies to fight.

The trailer for this postapocalyptic open- world adventure was jaw- dropping; the stunning environments giving tantalising glimpses of where the action takes place.

Resident Evil: Village ( various) is the tenth major instalment in the popular horror series, and picks up a few years after where Biohazard left off.

Continuing with the first- person perspective of Resident Evil 7, Village is set in Europe and sees protagonist Ethan’s life turned upside down by the arrival of Chris Redfield, an unexpected, yet familiar face.

Far Cry 6 ( various) Introduces the Caribbean island of Yara ( a fictional take on Cuba), which is simmering with tension as President Anton Castillo holds an iron grip.

With a revolution at hand, I assume you’ll play a key role, with battles taking place across Yara.

Expect lots of shooting, stealth action, and stunning scenery.
