Stefan’s dry year in aid of cancer charity

- CLAIR FULLARTON

A fundraiser has decided to forego alcohol for a whole year to raise cash for Ayrshire Cancer Support.

Stefan Nelson, from Ayr, is hoping his dry year challenge will be a success for the charity, which has its HQ in Kilmarnock.

Stefan, pictured above with his family, said:“Everyone has been affected by cancer, whether that is being diagnosed with it themselves or having a friend or family member who has been diagnosed with it.

“Ayrshire Cancer Support does incredible work in helping people who have cancer even in these current restrictions so I would like to do my bit and help them raise as much money as possible to help them continue with the work they do.

“So for one whole year I am going to be giving up alcohol and having a‘dry year’.”

The charity is now calling on residents across Ayrshire to follow in Stefan’s footsteps and raise funds by giving up their favourite thing for even just a month or two.

Whether it is a daily chocolate hit, a morning coffee on your way to work, or even a weekly takeaway, you can choose to‘give it up’for a whole month or two and get sponsored by your family and friends.

Alternatively, you can just donate the amount you would’ve spent on all your coffees, treats, or whatever it is you’ve given up, to the charity.
