Worst for Covid deaths revealed
The number of people who have died from Covid-19 in every area of South Ayrshire has been revealed.
Figures show the worst-affected neighbourhood with 32 deaths is Ayr South Harbour and town centre. There were 20 Covid-linked fatalities registered in the Prestwick Airport and Monkton area and 18 in Dalmilling.
The death toll was lowest in Newton North, Ayr, and Craigie with the loss of one life in each area.
The National Records of Scotland has released the death registrations for each neighbourhood from the beginning of the pandemic up until December 31.
Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock MP Allan Dorans (below) said: “My thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones and friends at this time. We all must do our part to comply with Scottish Government guidelines.”
The SNP politician said high levels of deaths in certain areas were due to care home infections.
He said:“That is why the Scottish Government is targeting care homes with the vaccine, 96 per cent of care home residents have now been vaccinated along with 81 per cent of staff.”
Prestwick Airport and Monkton has the highest coronavirusrelated death rate in South Ayrshire with 626 fatalities per 100,000 people.
Dalmilling was hit with 610 Covid-linked fatalities per 100,000 population, according to
the latest statistics. Ayr South
Harbour and town centre has recorded 587 deaths per 100,000 people.
