Nationalist MP working for you
During lockdown, Parliament continues to operate albeit, almost entirely virtually.
Here are just some of the activities I have taken part in during the last week or so on your behalf.
I attended the virtual launch of the Poppy Scotland manifesto in support of our veterans. I recorded a short video highlighting the fantastic work of the Riverside Church, who in partnership with Seagate Church (Troon), Southside Church (Ayr), and Christians Against Poverty (CAP) launched the Ayr Debt Centre which will provide advice, help, and support to those experiencing problems with debt. I applied, unsuccessfully, to take part in debates and to ask oral questions in the Chamber but submitted written questions to several ministers on behalf of a number of constituents. I took part in a Zoom meeting relating to the future of the Aviation industry attended by senior members of ABTA, the airline industry, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and
senior representatives of Airports. I attended a meeting of the European Scrutiny Committee, a high-level committee, looking at the impact of European legislation and how it affects this country. I viewed virtually a number of parliamentary proceedings including Scotland Office and Prime Ministers Questions and a number of debates of national importance including the Covert Human Intelligence Sources (Criminal Conduct) and Environment Bill and voted on these by proxy. I took part in the Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony and lit a candle in memory of the six million Jews and others murdered during the holocaust and other genocides which have taken place since then. I attended a Hydrogen100 Zoom meeting relating to promoting the use of Hydrogen as a source of energy to help decarbonise the environment. I took part in a meeting of the Association for Children Damaged by Hormone Pregnancy Tests, continuing the fight for justice for those affected specifically by the drug Primidos, which caused birth defects in children.
I together with my small team of staff answered hundreds of emails and dealt with a large number of new and ongoing constituent enquiries and issues. All in a (relatively quiet) week’s work.
