Wildflower meadows
Land in nine South Ayrshire areas could be transformed into wildflower meadows or long grass zones.
The council has proposed planting the meadows in parts of Ayr and Prestwick to boost biodiversity.
The patches - which would be rarely cut - could attract more butterflies, insects birds and other creatures. Blue native cornflowers and red poppies would likely be among the blooms. Where the nine proposed patches are as part of pilot project: Perennial meadow at open space beside 21 Castle Walk and 34 Greenan Road, Ayr. Perennial meadow between 35 and 49 Glenalla Crescent, Doonfoot, Ayr. Longer grass at area northwest of Millennium Bridge, Doonfoot, Ayr. Longer grass at ground in Hayhill, Ayr. Annual meadow in Castlehill Estate, Ayr. Annual meadow at Land at Glenmuir Place, Whitletts, Ayr. Annual meadow and longer grass at Kingsmeadow Estate, Semple Road, Prestwick. Perennial meadow at Oval area, Prestwick. Longer grass next to Ardfin Road Play Area, Prestwick
Councillors will decide at a virtual private meeting next week.
