Fond farewell

Former pupils of a certain age at Braehead Primary School may well remember this picture from 1990. It shows Tom McCutcheon planting a tree to mark his retirement in 1990 as headmaster of the school.

Thirty one years on, are you one of the pupils in the background?

A business creation project is aiming to find the next female entrepreneurs in New Cumnock.

Women across the region are being urged to sign up to the scheme, delivered by New Cumnock Development Trust (NCDT) in partnership with Women’s Enterprise Scotland (WES) and Development Trusts Association Scotland.

It kicks off on Monday and will run over a 10-week period with weekly sessions held by zoom.

The rural business start-up is designed to provide information on building a business from scratch and help with ideas generation and skills matching.

Topics covered will include business planning, attracting customers, pricing and managing finances.

Local businesswoman Wendy Pring, an NCDT trustee and WES Ambassador said: “This programme will inspire, motivate and inform women on the benefits and challenges of business creation and the processes involved.

“It is rooted in our community and grown out of a specific local need.

“We know there is currently a real lack of any business creation programme in the area with a genderappropriate approach involved.”
