KERR: TIME TO GET UGLY

Boss says he believes in his squad

- STUART WILSON

Mark Kerr insists he backs his Ayr players to avoid a relegation scrap.

The United boss has seen his squad plunge to the wrong end of the table since Christmas.

And he admits they will now have to do things the ugly way to pull clear of trouble.

He said: “We’ve put ourselves into this situation.

“There’s no point in me talking all the time about chances we’ve missed in games.

“The fact of the matter is we’re not taking them.

“We now need to step up and stick together as a group.

“The next few weeks aren’t going to be pretty but I know we have the players to get us up the table.

“It is a crazy league this season and we know one or two results changes things completely, as Queen of the South have shown.

“But we cannot keep saying that – we have to go and do it.”

Saturday’s defeat at home to

Inverness sent Ayr down to ninth in the table.

And United welcome Championship form horses Arbroath to Somerset this week with the Lichties unbeaten in seven.

Kerr said: “It’s simple,

we’ve got to go and win games now.

“We’re just killing ourselves by not taking chances.

“I’m still confident in what I have here that we can push up this table.

“But there’s no doubt that with the players we have, we are underachieving to be in the position we are.

“But we’re the ones who have to put that right.

“I can fully understand the fans looking at this and being frustrated but we will work to get the form back on track.”

United’s trip to Dundee last night was called off for a FOURTH time due to a waterlogged pitch.

Meanwhile, Dre Wright is rated doubtful for the visit of Arbroath.
