Esther is Labour’s candidate

- HILLEY

Station Hotel campaigner Esther Clark will stand as the Labour candidate in May’s Scottish elections.

Mrs Clark, 79, will battle against current MSP Conservative John Scott, SNP councillor Siobhian Brown, and Scotia Future leader Chic Brodie to represent the Ayr constituency. The gran has been fighting to save the town’s iconic Hotel and set up South Ayrshire Dementia Support Association and Ayr Action for Mental Health.

Mrs Clark said:“I look forward to representing the core values of the Labour Party and showing voters in Ayr that the future of politics is in more equality, social justice, and unity. We need to recover our health services, including the allocation of extra resources for mental health and to have higher quality free support for people at home as part of the social care service.”

She calls for the “protection and building of local amenities in redundant shops so families and friends can safely meet up again and ensure a vibrant local economy to chart success in this post pandemic.”

Mrs Clark is part of a stalwart Labour family. Her daughter Katy Clark was a former Labour MP and her great grandfather was MP Sanny Sloan.

South Ayrshire Council Labour Group leader, Brian McGinley, said he was delighted Esther was standing and added:“She has a wealth of experience in local politics and is a seasoned campaigner in tackling local problems, like bringing redundant buildings back to life and improving health, especially for people with mental health problems, people with dementia and their carers.”
