AYRSHIRE ORIENTEERING CLUB
Ayshire Orienteering Club has been named as one of 13 key community organisations to be given a helping hand by family housebuilder Mactaggart & Mickel.
The club has been awarded £500 for equipment that will help novices, children and low-income participants take part in their organised activities.
The club, which actively encourages the public to lead a healthy and active lifestyle through their activities, will spend the funds increasing the number of Sport Ident timing chips they have available.
Mactaggart & Mickel made the donations from its Building Communities Fund to nine good causes on both sides of the Scottish-English border to help them navigate their way through lockdown restrictions.
Sheelagh Nicol, speaking on behalf of the Ayrshire Orienteering Club, said: “Orienteering is a community activity in which all ages and standards compete simultaneously, making it fun and convenient for people of all ages, encouraging them to spend more time outdoors.
“The funding given will allow us to reach more individuals within our local community as we can offer them the use of a timing chip that we use as part of our orienteering challenges.”
Joanne Casey, director at Mactaggart & Mickel, added: “We are committed to helping organisations and projects that benefit people’s lives through our Building Communities Fund and we know their work is more valuable than ever due to Covid-19.”
