PJ Morrison wants to become an Ayr hero after being pitched into their relegation battle.

The Motherwell stopper has joined United for their final four games amid a keeper crisis at Somerset.

Viljami Sinisalo’s return to Aston Villa on the eve of this clash left Ayr in a sweat.

But Morrison, fresh off a loan spell at Falkirk earlier this season, stepped in and looked an assured presence.

Now he’s hoping to put his experience to good use for Ayr during the run-in.

He said: “I was in a similar position on loan at Albion Rovers a couple of seasons ago.

“So I know what it’s like to be digging for results every week.

“We just stayed up in the last few games of the season there and the pressure was on.

“I know what I’m coming into here and I think there’s enough talent in the changing room to do the job.

“It’s also a chance for me to come in and get some first team games at an important time of the season.

“We’ve now got a six pointer up at Arbroath next week and we need to go up there prepared for a big game.”

Morrison met his new teammates just 24 hours before kick off after arriving on Friday but had little to do in a dull game.

His only real job was to pick the ball out of the net after 13 minutes as Declan McManus headed the Pars in front.

It would have been easy for United to fold given their recent struggles at Somerset but they looked far more solid on Saturday.

A back five was rarely troubled outwith the goal and, with Jamie Barjonas a bright spark, they fought level.

Mark McKenzie and Barjonas combined to tee up Mikey Miller and he finished from close range.

But that was that in terms of serious goalmouth chances.

And although Dre Wright appeared from the bench in the second half to look a physical presence, Ayr could not test Owain Fon-Williams as the game petered out to a draw.

AYR: Morrison, Houston, Baird, Roscoe, Ndaba, Reading; Miller, Muirhead, Barjonas, McCowan (Wright 64); McKenzie.

DUNFERMLINE: Fon-Williams, Comrie, Gaspuitis, E. Murray (Whittaker 73), Edwards, Mayo, Henderson, Thomas (Wighton 73), F. Murray (Watson 65), O’ Hara, McManus.
