Two bars have closed following positive Covid cases among staff.

Bosses at the BUF Prestwick confirmed on Monday lunchtime they were taking the decision to“voluntarily close for a while”.

It follows the positive test results for a “small number”of the venue’s team.

And The Ghillie Dhu in Ayr notified customers that a member of staff had contracted Covid-19 and that the venue would be closing as other workers are self-isolating.

A post on the the BUF ’s Facebook page read:“We are sorry to announce following a small number of our team testing positive for Covid we have decided it is in the best interests of staff and customers to voluntarily close for a while. This will allow staff to get tested and isolate if required.

“We are currently awaiting guidance from EHO and working closely with Health Protection Scotland and Test and Protect. We will be in contact with everyone who has booked within the next few days to arrange refunds.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope to welcome you back to the BUF soon.”

The Ghillie Dhu in Burns Statue Square bar and scullery announced on Facebook that staff will be getting tested as a precaution too.

Their Facebook post read: “Unfortunately we have now been notified that our team member has tested positive for Covid-19 and is isolating at home.

“We are remaining CLOSED and have asked all other members of staff to isolate for 10 days and get tested as a precaution to ensure the safety of everyone.

“We are communicating fully with Test and Protect and will follow their advice as required.

“Any other close contacts will be notified by Test & Protect in due course, but we are hopeful that the stringent procedures which we had put in place will mean that there is no further transmission.

“We want to reassure our customers that their safety is our absolute priority and that every possible step is being taken so that we can reopen securely with confidence. If you have a booking in the next 10 days we will be in contact with you to rearrange this. We appreciate your support and understanding and look forward to welcoming you back when it is safe.”
