Businesses unite together in support of new cancer centre
Businesses are getting their chequebooks out to aid the refurbishment of a new £400,000 support centre for children, teens and adults affected by cancer.
Ayrshire Cancer Support have been appealing for businesses to become corporate partners and back their #makeithappen campaign to help develop their newly purchased building.
The cancer charity bought over the former St. Andrews Hotel at 7 Prestwick Road, Ayr, last month and are keen to transform the building which will play host to counselling and therapeutic rooms, a large drop-in centre, purposed spaces for children and young people’s cancer support services, space to facilitate support groups as well as landscaped gardens and off-road parking.
Unite SC/157, based at Spirit Aerospace in Prestwick, generously donated £1000 towards ACS’s vision.
Unite representative Andy Murray said: “We saw Ayrshire Cancer Support’s appeal on Facebook and we wanted to help this local charity towards building their new centre.
“The support from members to donate to this cause was overwhelming as some of our members, or their family and friends, have benefitted from their extensive and much needed services.”
Nicola George, Corporate Fundraiser at Ayrshire Cancer Support, said: “We are delighted with the support from local businesses that we have received since we launched Phase2 of our capital campaign, #makeithappen.
“It is very generous of Unite SC/157 to donate this amazing amount of money to help us achieve our dream of raising £400,000 to open a new centre in Ayr.”
The charity is appealing for local businesses, as well as individuals, community groups, and schools, to help ‘Make it Happen’ by raising funds to allow ACS to undertake the necessary refurbishment and building works to ensure the centre can open as soon as possible.
Nicola added: “If other businesses want to help #makeithappen or enjoy the benefits of becoming one of our corporate partners, get in touch by email fundraising@ayrshriecs.org or call 01563 538008.”
