NO RUSH TOFINISH REBUILD

Hopkin says it’s time for patience

- STUART WILSON

David Hopkin insists he won’t be rushed into the final pieces of his new-look Ayr jigsaw.

The boss, who made four signings last week, reckons United are making solid progress in the transfer market.

But he warned fans they will have to be patient as he looks for the key final additions.

A new goalkeeper and centre-forward remain critical puzzles to solve, but Hopkin (right) says it will be quality over quantity.

He told the Post: “It’s vital that we got those positions sorted, but we’ll not be rushing for the sake of it. We’re shopping in the same market to those around us and it’s a case of being patient.

“We’ve probably signed the most of any Championship club, so I’m happy with where we are.”

Morton old boys Sean McGinty, Markus Fjortoft and Cammy Salkeld have been joined at Somerset by former St Mirren defender Nick McAllister.

United assistant Dave Timmins has been in England the last three weekends to run the rule over potential new goalies.

And Hopkin said: “We’re willing to cast the net far and wide and are working tirelessly to bring people in.

“As well as the striker and keeper, I’d also like a couple of utility players who can play a number of roles for us.”

United have added two further pre-season friendlies to their schedule and will play Welsh side TNS at Cumnock on June 25.

They then face Stranraer at Stair Park on June 29 before a bounce game with Hearts at Largs on July 2. Then it’s a trip to St Mirren on July 6.

Season tickets will go on sale later this week with adults priced £260, concessions, over 65s, full-time students and 15-21 year-olds priced £160. Children aged 12-18 can snap up a ticket for £55 with under 12s going for just £20.

Those who buy will receive a £10 voucher for the club shop.

United have been drawn in Group E of the Premier Sports Cup alongside Hamilton, Falkirk, Albion Rovers and Edinburgh City.
