Carlonot chuffed withderby cupdraw

-

Carlo Walker claims Maybole have pulled the worst tie possible in Scotland’s largest senior cup draw in modern times.

‘Bole will make the 12 mile trip to derby rivals Girvan in the second round of The South Challenge Cup.

But Ladywell boss Walker insists they were looking for something totally different in the competition which features 161 senior nonleague clubs in a regionalised draw.

Walker said: “The whole idea of a cup is to play someone different from your normal opponents.

“There are teams from the South of Scotland who we have never played and yet we end up with a trip to our nearest neighbours. From that point of view, it’s the worst possible draw.”

Girvan boss Matt Maley, who worked alongside Walker before managing Annbank, took over at Hamilton Park six weeks ago.

Making a quick return will be full-back Michael Mossie who only recently switched clubs.

Glenafton entertain Craigmark in another all-Ayrshire tie with the winners at home to Kello.

Another derby sees Kilwinning host Winton Rovers for the right to travel to Irvine Meadow.

Selected second round ties: Blantyre Vics v Cumnock; Auchinleck v Forth; Lugar or Wigtown v Heston Rovs; Troon or Mid Annandale v Lanark Utd; Muirkirk v Dalbeattie Star or Whitletts. First round due on September 11, second round on October 16.

AUCHINLECK travel to Johnstone Burgh on Saturday while CRAIGMARK take on Hurlford United at Kilwinning Academy after opening with a 1-1 draw at Kilbirnie where Kevin Adam got the goal.

CUMNOCK entertain Craig McEwan’s St Cadoc’s after last weekend’s friendly against Lanark United was called off.

MUIRKIRK new boy Jamie Gray scored a debut hat-trick of penalties in a 3-1 win over Winton.

WHITLETTS midfielder Jordan Boyd has signed for his sixth season at the club.

Also returning are former Ayr youngster Kaylum Ferguson, defender Lyle Cameron, midfielder Louis Kerr and striker Jordan Baird.
