CRICKET: Ayr won local bragging rights with a comfortabl­e victory at Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Michael English and Lloyd Jefferson got the visitors off to an excellent start by putting on 79 as Ayr eventually posted a total of 198.

Scott McElnea made an early double strike to put the hosts on the back foot and the Ayr bowlers continued to be in control as they bowled Kilmarnock out for 99.

The Cambusdoon XI maintained their 100 per cent league record with a thrilling victory at home to Galloway.

Batting first, Ayr posted 208-5 with Johnny Baines top scoring on 92 not out.

Dave Baines claimed three quick wickets in the Galloway reply before Jake Woodhouse claimed another four swift wickets to seize control of the game, with Cambusdoon winning by 32 runs.

Last Tuesday the Cambusdoon XI were on duty in the Western Cup away to Albert Park and fell to a 28 run defeat.

Chasing the home team’s 150-7 they were always behind the required run rate despite an excellent opening stand of 94 between Ross Mitchell (43) and Lewis Lilley (50no) and finished on 122-4.

The Developmen­t XI travelled to Uddingston on Sunday and were always struggling to match the hosts’ 350-8.

Charlie Baker and Nari Bhandari took three wickets each.

In reply, Ayr’s youngsters posted 266-5, with good contributi­ons from Bhandari (56 no), Matthew Baines (40), Lewis Lilley (38) and Johnny Baines (36).

This week sees Ayr at home to Helensburg­h on Saturday in the league and on Thursday they travel to Glasgow to face West of Scotland in the Rowan Cup, while the Cambusdoon XI are away to Motherwell on Saturday.
