Hector, 3, is a budding builder
Meet Ayrshire’s youngest apprentice builder who has become an integral part of a new development.
Little Hector from Dundonald has become a key member of the team working to construct 63 new affordable homes.
The eager three-year-old has been loving watching the houses being placed into position and has looked on as diggers, tractors and cranes get to work at the site.
Hector attends the site on Kilmarnock Road with his dad David most mornings as the new Irvine Housing Association homes in the village take shape. Builders Connect Modular (a division of The Wee House Company) have enjoyed seeing his cheery face at the site each day, as he carries out his own site inspections. Hector was presented with a goodie bag to show appreciation for his input each day.
And he was presented with his very own hard hat so he can feel even more part of the team - as he dreams of progressing to driving a digger in the very near future.
Jennifer Higgins, managing director at The Wee House Company, said: “It’s wonderful to see how inspired and interested Hector is in the development, he’s definitely our youngest apprentice to date.”
Paul Hillard, managing director at Irvine Housing Association which is part of The Riverside Group, added: “I was delighted to hear about Hector on my last site visit.
“He has become something of a site mascot.”
The first lot of houses will be ready for occupancy before the end of this year.
