These are the faces behind those lending their voice, energy and experience to help create a new cancer support center in Ayr.
Ayrshire Cancer Support’s Ambassadors are committed to helping the charity reach their fundraising target of £400,000 to transform the recently purchased former St Andrew’s Hotel, on Prestwick Road in Ayr, into a vibrant new cancer centre.
The space will allow children, young people and adults to access practical and emotional support when a cancer diagnosis affects their lives.
The Ambassadors come from a range of backgrounds including keen fundraisers, cancer survivors and those who have lost a loved one to the disease.
Laura Brown, Head of Income and Communications at ACS, said: “We are delighted to be joined by people in the local community who will help our voice carry further.
“We need to generate £2,500 every day, just to keep our free services running – it would be impossible to help so many people without support from the local community.
“We are honoured that our ambassadors will be helping us to Make it Happen!”
Ambassador Yvonne Hendrie is a proud breast cancer survivor and used ACS’ services throughout 2020. She said: “We owe ACS so much for transport, counselling, complimentary therapies and the look good, feel good sessions. Brian and myself want to use our time and talents to give back.”
Cameron Radigan, from Galston, describes himself as a cancer survivor, amputee, archer and now ACS ambassador. He was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour when he was aged just two, and years later in 2018 had his leg aputated.
Cameron said: “I want to show there is life after cancer and I’m so proud to be accepted as an ambassador for Ayrshire Cancer Support.”
