Civicheadsbestwishes
I write in regard to the full Council meeting of East Ayrshire Council on Thursday, June 24, 2021.
It was a memorable day, but one in which we saw the democratic right of our ‘Brothers and Sisters’ of the Labour Party and ‘Boris’s Bairns’ of the Tory Party conspire and collude to topple the Civic heads of East Ayrshire Council, provost Jim Todd and depute provost Claire Leitch.
Matters ultimately went to a vote in which change was endorsed, aided by the Independent Ward 1 Councillor who effectively ‘sat on one’s hands’ and did not vote, instead, abstained!
Enter Ballochmyle councillor Neil McGhee who firmly advocated during discussion “The SNP have too much power”……really! Many people will remember the heady days of Labour administrations in East Ayrshire Council when Labour had absolute power and no other political group or faction within East Ayrshire got the opportunity to wash a pot, never mind flush the toilet without Labour’s say so.
The SNP administration as everyone will know is a minority one, therefore, it stands to reason that working with other parties is an absolute necessity for budgets, policies and governance to allow local government to function within East Ayrshire.
Back to Todd and Leitch.
They have been without doubt, the two finest ambassadors East Ayrshire Council and the people of East Ayrshire could have asked for.
In carrying out their duties as civic heads for the council, they were known not just locally or nationally throughout Scotland, but internationally, by promoting everything that was, and is good about East Ayrshire Council and all the people of East Ayrshire.
A hard act to follow indeed.
So back to councillor McGhee’s assertion on too much power.
Mibbies the question has to be asked in respect of what is the real prize?
Surely not toppling well respected civic heads such as Todd and Leitch?
The real prize is control of the council, so all the subterfuge and collusion was for what? Mibbies Labour and Tory voters will be asking what are the aspirations of, and the ambitions of, those we voted for at the last council elections? It was in all probability not to act in the aforementioned manner. As for the new civic incumbents, Labour provost Barry Douglas and Rubbish Party depute provost Sally Cogley. As I did at full council, wish you all the best in your Civic roles, I do so again. Ballochmyle SNP councillor Jim Roberts
