Concern over Post Offices facing the axe
Hello, I hope everybody is enjoying the recent lovely weather- it has been great to see all the people out on paddle boards and down at the beach enjoying the welcome sunshine in our lovely part of the world.
Since the election, parliamentary business has been extremely busy and in the past seven weeks I have dealt with close to 300 constituency cases.
In my“first speech”I took the opportunity to highlight the beauty of Ayr constituency and also highlight the issue of child and pensioner poverty and the disastrous impact of UK Conservative welfare policies.
I was also honoured to be appointed Convenor of the Covid-19 Recovery Committee, which I am acutely aware of the responsibility this holds to the people of Scotland.
Parliament is now officially on “recess”but plans are in place for us to reconvene for Covid updates during the break. It has been great to be back in the constituency in the past week speaking to constituents and local businesses about all the positive
things happening locally.
I am delighted to hear that the council have been assisting a local group to formally constitute an entity to source funding for community projects in South Harbour area which is very welcome.
The“Watchful”boat at South Harbour still sits in sad disrepair and although a recent survey costed it at £80k to restore I think we all know that it will not ever be water worthy again.
There is interest from a local group who are very keen to restore the boat to a level that it is not an eyesore but represents the rich fishing history in the area.
If you are interested in getting involved, please get in touch and I will put you in touch with the group.
It is very worrying the announcement from Post Office Ltd of the intention to“temporary”shut Forehill and Whitletts post offices next month.
These services are vital to their local community and I have been in correspondence in recent weeks asking for this closure to be delayed until a solution is found to still provide these services within the community.
