Anger on social media over collapse of key festive events

-

The cancellation of the Prestwick Christmas Market has been met with dismay by retailers and the public.

Scores of angry people took to social media to sum in their feelings in the wake of the collapse of the event.

Suzanne Hainey posted this message: “The kids have had their Christmas Panto’s cancelled, we aren’t allowed to watch their Nativity or go to a parents evening, we missed their sports days and settling in days. Now this!

“Yet thousands are allowed to congregate at football and rugby matches! It is absolutely ridiculous.”

And Danielle Crichton said:“This is so sad. I am pretty upset as I had everything organised for a body shop stall.”

Ann McKinnon left this message:“Bah Humbug. Scrooge. No sense of reality. People work so hard and they are destroying an important social activity as well as suppressing Prestwick’s economy and reputation.”

John Robinson summed his feelings up when he said:“Absolute nonsense and they should be ashamed of themselves. It’s outside in open areas and the same happens every day of the week in every High Street. Utter disgrace.”

Heather Smith had this to say:“This is so disappointing!

“Many stall holders will have already invested a lot of time and expenses to be prepared for this event. What happened to support local?”

Craig Morrow posted:“Incredibly disappointing as I was really looking forward to it.

“Isn’t this kind of what terrorists want to achieve? To make us afraid so we won’t live our lives in the way we would want to?

“Seems more like a group of public bodies that just wanted to take the easy option of saying no and have been digging round for ways to make that happen from the start.”

Janice Dement said:“Such a shame. South Ayrshire Council and councillors should be ashamed of themselves. Never any support for Prestwick.”

And Cheryl McSorley said:“Absolute joke! The police have objected to it?! But not to football games and all that goes with it.

“Kids can’t even have a lights switch on! Really boiling my blood now.”
