Thanks a million!
Communities across Ayrshire have helped raise over £1 million to build a new cancer support centre for children, young people and adults.
Generous folks throughout the region have donated to Ayrshire Cancer Support’s (ACS) new centre on Prestwick Road in Ayr, which was once the popular St Andrews Hotel.
Grand plans will see the building transformed into a haven to support people of all ages affected by cancer – whether through their own diagnosis or that of a loved one – and will have therapeutic rooms, a dropin facility and counselling rooms.
The centre will cost around £2m when the extensive development work is undertaken and it is hoped – should the overall target be met – that it will open within two years.
With the charity halfway there, the ambition now is to generate the other magic million by April 2023.
Laura Brown, head of fundraising for Ayrshire Cancer Support, said: “It is really encouraging that we have managed to raise over £1 million in the first year of our capital fundraising campaign at a time when Covid has impacted much of our fundraising work.
“We couldn’t have done this without the help of our ambassadors, all of whom have a real vision and passion to get this vitally important facility up and running as soon as possible.
“At Ayrshire Cancer Support, every penny we raise really matters and having the support of volunteers to help us raise the funds means that we can be sure that our donors’ money is well spent.
“It’s also a great reflection on the importance of our local services, that people feel our fundraising plans deserve their support.
