United chief insists fans are buying into club’s ambitious new vision

- STUART WILSON

Ayr United fans are buying into the club’s progressive new vision.

That’s according to managing director, Graeme Mathie, who’s promised supporters a bold picture of the future next week.

An event being staged at the Somerset Hub is set to unveil stadium redevelopment plans along with football and other off-pitch projects.

And Mathie says United bosses have been delighted with supporter response, which has already seen event capacity increased for the Hub event.

He told the Post: “I think the initial feedback we’re getting shows where the club is just now in terms of positivity.

“Season ticket sales have been strong so far and the demand for this event has been fantastic, causing us to make more spaces available, which is great.

“We want to set out a very clear vision of where we see ourselves going and we need all the supporters with us on that journey.

“What happens on the pitch is vitally important, but we also need to put the relevant building blocks in place elsewhere.

“And I hope fans are going to be impressed by what they see and hear.”

Ayr return to pre-season training next Friday with the club stepping up the hunt for new faces.

An experienced centre half is top of the shopping list following the departures of Aaron Muirhead, Markus Fjortoft and Jack Baird.

It is understood talks are underway with key targets.

United are also keen to add a couple of fresh faces in the midfield and wide areas.

Ayr remain in active discussions with last season’s top scorer Tomi Adeloye, who is still mulling over his next move.

Midfielder Kerr McInroy, who was on loan from Celtic last term, is understood to have a number of offers on the table following his successful Somerset stint.

The club also hope to strike a deal with veteran Michael Moffat that will see the 37-year-old take up a “hybrid” role at Somerset, increasing his input off the park.

•Tickets can still be snapped up for next Thursday’s vision night from the club shop or by phoning on 01292 263435.
