- COLIN PATERSON AND RYAN THOM

Two men died in separate horrific road smashes within two days of each other.

Dad Jamie Boyd, 30, was killed after a crash on the B741 last Monday at 7.35am.

Two days later, John Rae, 58, from Girvan, died after his white MG was involved in a smash with a blue and white Volvo bus last Wednesday about 10.30pm.

Tragic Jamie was riding his motorbike, a black Suzuki SV 650, when it was involved in a crash with a yellow JCB 4220 tractor, at Hamilton Bridge, near Dailly.

Emergency services raced to the accident but Mr Boyd was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor was badly shaken but otherwise unharmed.

The road was closed for around six hours to allow investigation work to be carried out.

Police would like to hear from witnesses or motorists with dash-cam footage as they try to establish exactly what happened.

Sergeant Kenneth Malaney, of Police Scotland’s road policing unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased at this very difficult time.”

Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information can call 101, quoting reference 0649 of 11 July.

Meanwhile, John died at the scene of a crash between a car and a bus on the A77.

Emergency services raced to the scene on the stretch of road between Girvan and Turnberry.

There were no other reported injuries and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

The road was closed overnight in both directions with motorists diverted via Dailly.

The road reopened the following day around 6am. Officers have launched an appeal and are asking for any witnesses to come forward with information of dashcam footage.

Sergeant Christopher Hoggans, of Ayrshire Roads Policing, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Rae at this very difficult time. We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the crash to come forward with any information or dash-cam footage.

“Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting incident 3780 of July 13.”
