A domestic abuse victim who had to jump out of a window to escape her attacker has hit out after he walked free from court.

Emma Hockings, 31, was forced to escape in her bra and leggings after brute Craig Corbett, 34, ripped her clothing off during the shocking assault at her home.

She managed to break free from the drunken yob and ran to a nearby neighbour’s house where a doorbell camera captured her in floods of tears and holding her neck.

Horrific pictures of her injuries show Emma with bruises across her throat and on her body which were inflicted during the sustained attack.

But a sheriff allowed Corbett to walk free last Wednesday after he agreed to go on a course aimed at helping domestic abusers mend their ways.

Devastated Emma said Corbett should have been jailed.

Emma, who now suffers from PTSD, broke down in tears and told how she now fears she will now have to walk past Corbett in the street.

She added: “He could’ve killed me. He’s a monster. And he’s just basically been let off with it.”

Corbett admitted assaulting Emma to her injury during the January 15 incident, which saw him repeatedly hit her on the head before strangling her.

Emma, who’d been in a relationship with Corbett for 11 months, told how the couple had got into an argument after he had returned from work to their home in Cronberry, near New Cumnock.

Emma said: “He hit me about 16 or 17 times in the head and the face. I managed to crawl to the front step but he was dragging me back in.

“I was screaming for help. He was dragging me by the hair.

“My nail varnish was left all over the walls from where I was trying to hold on while he was dragging me.

“I ran through to my other room and tried to jump out the window.

“I pushed my chest of drawers across the door to give me time but he kicked the door open.

“I managed to get away to another room but that’s when he grabbed me and started strangling me.

“I could feel my eyes rolling and I knew I was going to stop breathing.

“I just kept thinking, ‘I just want to see my mum one last time.’

“His eyes were just black. He could see that I was struggling to breathe and he let go. “I took a breath and he did it again. “He then left me there choking and went and lay down in my bed.

“I knew I had seconds to get out of the house.

“I only had leggings and a bra on but I jumped out the window and started running to my neighbour’s house.”

Scaffolder Corbett, who is originally from Leeds, was remanded in custody before appearing for sentencing at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

The thug received a two-year nonharassment order and was placed under the supervision of social workers for 24 months.

He must complete the Caledonian programme, which seeks to help domestic abusers change their ways.

Shattered Emma added: “This was somebody that was meant to love me.

“It took me ages to stop imagining him standing above me.”
