Cousins’ adventure of a lifetime in 10,000 mile road trip in Micra

- RYAN THOM

Two cousins have hit the start point of the wacky Mongol Rally — a 10,000-mile trip across the world in a tiny motor.

Chris Johnston-Marr, 28, from Ayr, and Marc Tracey, 30, from Troon, have been blazing a trail across Europe in the humble motor named Monte.

On Sunday they reached the official start of the rally along with hundreds of other participants all in vehicles with engines 1.2 litres or under.

Their“completely bonkers”trip, has seen them already tackle ridiculous terrain as they try and capture as many of the world’s 45 poles of inconvenience.

But with the pair eyeing up a scorching drive in the Sahara, the worst is yet to come.

Marc said:“It really is an adventure of a lifetime. There are GPS markers all over the place called the poles of inconvenience and they are called that for a reason, they are very inconvenient to get to. At some points we have had to walk up them because the car can only go so far, there are 45 across the world and we’re going to try and get as many as we can.”

Their adventure of a lifetime under the name‘Yes We Khan’is all being driven in aid of motor neurone disease with a large chunk of proceeds going to My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

And the lads hope their eye-catching motor and mad tour can help raise awareness and fund research into the disease, after losing their gran to MND. Funding is also set to towards Cool Earth a charity which seeks to save the rainforest.

Marc said:“Our gran passed about 15 years ago now to MND, we have raised money for MND Scotland in the past so it was a no brainer when we were chatting about doing this.”
