DJ’s new EP inspired by his upbringing in Kincaidston

- RYAN THOM

Scots hit DJ Ewan McVicar has launched his latest EP inspired by his Ayr upbringing along with a nostalgic music video.

The‘Tell Me Something Good’star has released a two track EP entitled‘Heather Park’, named after the street of his first family home in Kincaidston.

The release dubbed by the star as“one of my favourite”projects features a six minute music video filmed in the Ayr estate, with touching home family videos of Ewan growing up - which the star admits have made him cry.

The video comes with a moving message from Ewan, who explains his childhood memories sharing one room with his three brothers, playing football and taking a“’maddie’oot the back door” and“rattling my toy snake off the whirligig.”

The DJ’s message reads:“’Heather Park’was the street I grew up on and where I have so many cherished memories.

“The video represents how far my family and I have come from three brothers (Neill, Ewan, Rory) in the one room scrapping, laughing, crying, my maw, Briso and papa taking care of us all.

“Playing football out the back, me taking a ‘maddie’oot the back door and rattling my toy snake off the whirligig. It represents that nostalgic feeling of a real family home and a world away from the real world. So glad it is finally here and I get to share this beautiful video with everyone. I’ve cried every time I’ve watched it so it’s like Marley & Me now.”

The video, which was released last Wednesday, saw Ewan take to Twitter to thank fans for their response.

The DJ tweeted:“Holy f**k man the reaction to Heather Park ahhh...thank you.”

The Ayr DJ shot to fame last year with award winning‘Tell Me Something Good’which was hailed track of the year by DJ Mag Best of British and Radio 1’s‘Electronic Track of the Year’for 2021.

The release features main track‘Heather Park’ and b-side‘The Nucienda’.

Ewan says he was inspired by great memories he had growing up in Heather Park in producing the tune which has already gone down a hit on the estate, with local fans sharing the track.

The star added:“Writing Heather Park in my mind was the melody and pulling as much emotion from the pluck as I could.

“With the name being after our first family house, I wanted it to be reminiscent of all the great memories we had there and that’s where the thick bass-line, strings and pads come in”.

It comes as St Mirren-daft Ewan launched his boyhood heroes’new away kit with an impromptu gig at St Mirren Park.

The new away shirt from the Paisley club features the iconic Paisley print pattern.
