It’s our intention to bring back the airshow

-

We’re now well into the summer holidays and with some good weather finally here, I hope many of you are managing to take some time out to relax and recharge your batteries.

Our beaches are set to be busy once again this season. Council staff and volunteers do a great job keeping them looking their best, and I am delighted that Ayr, Maidens, Prestwick, Girvan and Troon South Beach have all received Beach Awards this year.

Barassie Beach has also now become an official bathing water.

As visitor numbers start to recover, we’re looking to have a portfolio of events which will help boost tourism.

It’s also our intention to bring back the airshow.

We want to improve our town centres and bringing people back into the heart of Ayr is key. We plan to use the former Hourstons building as offices, increasing footfall in the area. I

also want to ensure that locals and visitors are not indefinitely confronted with the eyesore that is the Station Hotel building. Discussions are ongoing, and I am committed to finding a way forward.

Improving existing leisure facilities is another area I intend to pursue. At present, a new gym is being installed at Prestwick Swimming Pool and investing in the Citadel is a more realistic ambition than building a new leisure centre.

I also plan to make significant funding available for every Council ward, giving communities the opportunity to make long-lasting improvements.

Our investment in education continues. The new building at Maybole Community Campus is set to be occupied by August 2023; work at Sacred Heart Primary School, Girvan,is progressing well, and we expect the school to be open in time for the new term in August.

This investment in education will help us to maintain our excellent record for young people moving on to positive destinations when they leave school.

I hope you all have a good summer.
