ForgottenSNPpromises

-

Regarding Cllr Henderson’s assertions that the Conservative Party and the SAC leading party are misleading the public.

How quick Cllr Henderson forgot the promises he made when his party was in power.

He promised the residents of Girvan “Allotments”, 5 years on and we still don’t have them, The Tower Blocks of Flats at Lindum Avenue would be demolished, the same as at Riverside Flats in Ayr, still there are no plans for this.

The “Field”, adjacent to Hillcrest Nursing Home would be turned into a kids’ play park then when that didn’t materialise they put in for planning permission for 19 new additional housing care accommodation for Hillcrest Nursing Home to replace the accommodation that they had demolished in 2016 and still these have not been built and is now nothing more than a dog poo field.

He would sort out the council’s social housing which is over 35 years old and in serious need of “modernisation” of its cladding and insulation which shouldn’t have been a problem as the Housing Department is the only money making department within the council and makes £10.5m a year profit every year for the last 10 years, (Over £100m) so even when the council makes profit the SNP Controlling Councillors were unable to improve the council’s performance by building the 3000 homes promised over the same period which would have zeroed the Homeless housing list and housed the Afghan refugees and the Ukrainian refugees as well as increased the Housing Revenues to the council and so its profits.

Instead the SNP believe that it is best to demolish much needed Housing and rebuild a reduced number of Council Housing at an increased cost of £300,000 per housing unit, making the new development at Riverside Ayr a very costly £29M+ for just 97 households again built with concrete and so only have a 25 year shelf life .

Can this seriously be considered as “Value for money”? Cllr Henderson’s business plan has costs of some £41,000 per unit per year while returning just over £4,000 a year per unit in Rent or £100,000 over the 25 year Life Span of each property?

If Cllr Henderson and his SNP party considers that to be an equitable proposition for the housing why has the same “Business Plan” not been applied to our “Old” 1970’s dilapidated Housing and so reduced our rents making them “value for money” to the tenants instead of charging as at the 2022 rental charges?
