POWERCHAIR

AYRSHIRE TIGERS

-

Ayrshire Tigers Powerchair Football Club invited their “twinned club” Middlesbrough PFC up to Largs to play for the inaugural “Twinning Trophy” at the Sportscotland Inverclyde National Training Centre.

The European Powerchair Football Association started up an initiative of ‘Twinning’ clubs to promote a culture of sharing different ideas coaching techniques and funding ideas.

A joint training session was held in the morning which included drills run by both sets of coaches and then both teams got ready for the match after a break for lunch.

The Tigers got off to a great start as they took an early lead through an OG by McNicol thanks to a quickly taken corner by Robertson.

However, Boro quickly equalised straight from the restart through an unlucky OG by Doull.

Boro then when close again to scoring after some great passing by McNicol and a well timed strike by McKie but Robb came to the Tigers rescue and produced a great save.

Boro took a well deserved lead just before half-time after some great passing with Hanif scoring with a tap in at the back post.

Just after the Tigers got the second half underway Boro went 3-1 up thanks to a great long pass to Found who scored at the near post past Paterson.

Eventually Boro scored two more times to post a 5-2 win.

Well done to Annmarie Robertson who got the award for best “Tigers” player and James Found, the Boro Captain, who was awarded the prize for best “Boro” player.

A spokesperson said: “The facilities at Largs are amazing and both clubs would like to thank the staff at the Inverclyde National Training Centre who looked after both teams really well.

“Thank you to Brian for refereeing the match and I know our players really enjoyed the Boro coaches’ training drills.

The Tigers are looking forward to going down to Middlesbrough next year to try and win back the trophy.

“And a big thanks to Eddie and his team at the Ayrshire Film Company for filming the event.”
