BARE BONES

Syla and McHugh add to Brown’s team injury crisis

- STUART WILSON

Scott Brown admits he faces a challenge just fielding an Ayr side at the moment.

But the boss has vowed to roll with the punches of his injury crisis.

United are in the midst of a huge week that will go a long way to deciding their Championship fate.

Morton were due at Somerset last night (Tuesday) before doomed Arbroath visit town on Saturday.

Brown doesn’t have his troubles to seek on the injury front with midfield duo Roy Syla and Harry McHugh the latest absentees.

That meant striker Mark McKenzie playing in the centre of the park for much of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Raith.

And Brown admits it’s a case of working to get the best from his situation at present.

He said: “Marky going in there probably sums up our position at the minute and it’s frustrating because every game I’m having to change the team due to the injuries.

“We know we just have to get on with it.

“But we’re losing bodies every week at the moment and we’re down to the bare bones.

“The positive is that the young ones coming on are making a positive impact.

“We don’t have the biggest squad in the world and we’ll need to battle through these coming games.

“But the lads coming in are keen and they want to impress and that’s the most important thing for me.”

United were boosted by Saturday’s return to the bench of Logan Chalmers – and he made a quick impact by scoring as a second half sub.

Brown said: “Logan showed probably our one bit of quality in Saturday’s game and it was good to have him back.

“The frustration was that our own mistakes cost us again and it’s game management that needs to improve - giving away daft free kicks and penalties.”
