New venue gets planning boost
An expanding restaurant chain has been given a big boost ahead of its scheduled grand opening this month.
Owners of Indriya Bar and Restaurant have been given permission to transform the front of their building, on 25-27 Burns Statue Square in Ayr.
Local diners will know the site well, as previous occupants were Italian restaurant Vito’s, which first opened up in 2006.
Now the outlet on Burns Statue Square has changed hands and is owned by ATM Bar and Restaurants Ltd, who plan to open to customers next month.
The Post can reveal that the name of the new outlet could suggest that a North Indian style cuisine might be on the menu.
In their planning application to South Ayrshire Council they sought permission for alterations to the Indriya shop front.
Translated from North Indian Hindi, ‘indriya’ means ‘senses’.
Agent in the proposals was Wham Architecture, who sought permission for the “installation of new shop frontage and signage” as well as the “replacement of the existing single-glazed aluminium shopfront glazing with double-glazed aluminium units.”
The planning statement goes on: “Although the building is not listed, the shop front sits along the demarcation line of the Town Centre Conservation
Area.”
And there appears to be a takeaway option too.
The planning statement added: “The proposals also include the redecoration of the existing painted masonry facade to provide a uniform frontage that will bring the building in line with our client’s brand identity which is present at all their locations across the UK.”
In approving the proposals council planners said: “It is considered that the proposed fascia signage will not have an adverse impact on amenity or road safety in the locale. Having balanced the rights of the applicant against the general interest, it is recommended that the application be approved.”
