THIS weekend is a big one for Menai Bridge Cricket Club on two fronts. On Saturday, the Anglesey club travel to Connah’s Quay bidding to keep up their challenge for a third successive North Wales League Premier Division title.
Then on Sunday, the Bridge will host the Nat West Club T20 Area Final at Tyn-y-Caeau.
North Wales T20 champions Menai are set to compete with Cheshire title holders Bramhall, Barnards Green of the Birmingham & District Premier League, and North Staffordshire & Cheshire League kings Checkley in a four-way tournament.
The action starts at 10am and should make for compelling viewing.
Last Saturday Bridge were in winning form at home to Mochdre in a low-scoring Premier encounter.
Zachary Ringrose scooped a firstteam best 5-28 in a comfortable seven-wicket victory.
Home skipper Robbie Jones put Mochdre into bat and it proved a sound decision as the visitors plummeted to 64 all out in 28.4 overs.
New Zealand new-ball bowler Ringrose led the way, increasing his league wickets tally for the season to 45. Ashley Wood (2-9) and Gerallt Roberts (2-11) also bowled well for the reigning champions.
Bridge coasted to 67-3 in 21.4 overs to seal a 13-2 victory, Ringrose 25 no.
Bangor scraped home by two wick- ets in a low-scoring affair against Hawarden Park.
Invited to take first knock, visitors Park were removed for just 74, only Jamie Ducker (31) making double figures.
Andy Williams snapped up 5-24, David Winter 3-34 and Francois Mostert 2-15 for the hosts.
Looking home and dry on 66-4, the Citizens then dipped to 71-8 before getting over the line on 77 without fur- ther loss, opener Sion Evans top-scoring with 31.
Bangor edged the points 11-4 and this Saturday host Pontblyddyn at Tŷ Newydd.
An opening stand of 100 proved key as Bethesda defeated Mold 13-2 in the 1st XI League First Division.
After choosing to bat, Daniel Beswick (50) and Carwyn L Williams (33) got the home side off to a flying start.
Captain Nicholas Parry (47) and Ioan Roberts (33 not out) then helped the hosts chalk up 196-6 off 50 overs.
Mold were dismissed for 125, Sean Buchanan doing best with 4-20, Gareth V Edwards grabbing 2-25 and Richard Lee Williams 2-47.
Bodedern went down 11-4 at Castell Alun in the 1st XI Second Division.
Put into bat, the Mold area side set 156-9 off 45 overs, Michael Arden topping the batting chart with 55.
Edward Gadsby took 3-21 and Carwyn Thomas 2-17 for the Anglesey men, who were all out for 139, Gadsby 40, Martin Roberts 30.
