Search volunteers boosted by donation

-

HORIZON Nuclear Power has donated more than £4,000 to Môn Search and Rescue, enabling volunteer members to gain essential training to help save lives across Anglesey.

Môn Search and Rescue received the donation after applying to Horizon Nuclear Power’s Charitable Donations, Community Support and Sponsorship scheme, which provides funding support to local charities, projects and groups.

Horizon gave away more than £100,000 in funding last year, benefitting around 60 good causes.

Historically, teams from Snowdonia – and sometimes further afield – have been used to help with searches, because Anglesey didn’t have its own specialist response team. Founded in 2015, Môn Search and Rescue gives Anglesey a vital lowland emergency service that’s dedicated to serving the island. The team can now support the existing search and rescue services working on Anglesey and the mainland – including the police, coastguard and mountain rescue teams – by providing specialist land based search volunteers.

There are currently 12 members of the team but the voluntary organisation hopes to more than double in size, so they can run a comprehensive 24-hour service to Anglesey. The current volunteers will all benefit from the Horizon funding, as they will be undertaking specialist training.
