THREE talented young North Wales cyclists have been making big waves on the competition cir- cuit.

Penygroes-based Cadi Jones, after winning the North West England and Wales Junior League in 2015, capped her 2016 season with two national titles.

Firstly she won the National 10-mile time trial (TT) at Rhayader in May, then in September she was victorious at the Junior National Circuit Championship held at the Builth Wells showground.

Cadi, who was encouraged to cycle from a very early age by her bike-loving father, competed in her first race on the Great Orme in Llandudno in 2014.

Last December, she took part in two training camps at the Newport Velodrome – firstly with her fellow Energy v Llanfairpwll, Llannerchymedd v Prestatyn Sports. Colwyn Bay v Holyhead Hotspur, Llangefni Town v Llandudno Junction, Prestatyn Town v Trearddur Bay. GWYNEDD LEAGUE

Cadi benefited hugely from both camps, and especially appreciated her initiation into the Madison event.

Another Energy Cyclist making waves at national level is Jack Williams of Caernarfon, soon to be 18.

He was also inspired by his father to take up cycling seriously and won Gwynedd Cycling’s TT junior series in 2014 and 2015.

Jack also finished second in the National TT 10-mile and third in the National Criterium in 2015.

In May 2016 at Rhayader, Jack went a step further by winning the National 25-mile TT.

With the aid of Energy Cycles junior coach John Keightley’s connections in Ireland, Jack was given a place in Nicholas Roch’s elite team to ride the Junior Tour of Ireland.

Ex-Energy Cycle rider and current Welsh development team member Gwenno Hughes suffered a setback in April when she broke her collarbone in a crash while racing in Holland with the national team.

Considering she was also coming to terms with racing at under-18 level, this injury certainly came at a bad time for Gwenno.

However, with her customary drive and determination, she was back racing in no time and finished second in the National Circuit Championship in Builth Wells in September.

Gwenno, 16, hails from Maenaddwyn near Llannerchymedd, Anglesey, and has enjoyed numerous successes since taking up cycling at the age of 12.

This trio of talented cyclists share the same will to improve and succeed.

All three have also benefited hugely from the expertise of Keightley.
