FUNERAL FOR MUM SUSAN

Hundreds attend

- Sarah Hodgson

HUNDREDS of mourners lined the streets of an Anglesey town yesterday to pay their respects to a mum-of-two killed in a crash.

Family and friends said their final goodbye to Susan Jane Owen at her funeral in Llangefni.

The 50-year-old was driving a white BMW on the B4547 at Nant-ygarth between Y Felinheli and Pentir when an object fell off a van and hit her on September 23.

The coffin of the nurse from Pentreberw near Gaerwen was carried into the funeral service at St Cyngar’s Church on the shoulders of six pallbearers.

A pink floral tribute spelling out Sue was placed on top of her coffin. The packed congregation sang the hymns Calon Lan and Calfari during the service.

Mrs Owen’s family thanked people for their support in the order of service.

It read: “Raymond, Carwyn and Steffan and all the family would like to express their sincere thanks for the kindness and sympathy extended to them in their sad bereavement.”

Donations at the funeral will be donated towards the Sue Owen Fund and the Hergest Unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd where she worked.

In a moving tribute Mrs Owen’s father Mick and mother Liz Jones described her as their “treasure”.

Their tribute read: “Sue was the backbone of our family, our treasure, the joy of our lives, so cruelly taken from us.

“Sue simply adored her fantastic talented boys, Carwyn and Steffan.

“She guided and encouraged them, but never pushed, so proud of their achievements.

“She was the same with the long awaited brother, Tony.

“She mothered and protected him. When he chose Ceri to be his wife, she was more than delighted, it was a joy to watch their close friendship develop.

“Sue also had a special bond with her boys’ lovely girls, Siwan Haf and Gwen Elin. They shared many special moments together.

“We will be eternally grateful to these angels for their strength and support during this difficult time and also from their extended families. We thank you for all your kindness and help.”

Following the accident Mrs Owen’s husband Rem said her death had left a “void” in his life.

He said: “Not only have I lost a wife, I have lost my love and best friend in the world.

“There will be a void left in my life after her.

“I’m so lucky to have enjoyed 28 years of marriage together, 28 years of bringing up two sons who are stars in the eyes of their mother.”
