Bangor back in action with big clash at Quay

-

AFTER a week’s break due to the international weekend, Bangor City return to Welsh Premier League action with a visit to Gap Connah’s Quay this Sunday (3pm).

This will be a big game for both teams, with the Nomads in second place and unbeaten in 10 starts, while City lie third, five points adrift of Andy Morrison’s side.

Bangor will be out for revenge having lost 2-0 at home to Quay early in the campaign.

City’s good form continued last Tuesday when they triumphed 3-2 at Cefn Druids to reach the last eight of the Nathaniel MG Cup. The reward for Andy Legg’s men is a home tie against holders The New Saints later this month.

The Citizens won with ease away to Druids and the final score should have been far more emphatic in their favour.

On the quarterhour the visitors edged ahead when Henry Jones, back from a three-match suspension, slotted home from 10 yards following a corner.

In the 24th minute Christian Langos chased a long ball and rose highest to head in from six yards.

Bangor were well on top and went close on a number of occasions before an overdue third arrived on 40 minutes as a corner dropped to Anthony Miley, who lashed home from close range.

The second half was similar to the first with the visitors creating a host of chances.

Rodrigo Blanco was twice off-target before Sam Hart blasted into the sidenetting and Jamie Reed headed over.

Against the run of play Cefn reduced the arrears with around 20 minutes left when Ashley Ruane scored a solo goal.

City tried to respond through Henry Jones, who went close twice but failed to add to his tally.

In added time City keeper Connor Roberts saved well from Naim Arsan, but Mike Pritchard reacted first to tap home from close range.

An unlikely comeback was possible, but Bangor held on to register a fully-deserved victory to take their place in the last eight of the league cup competition.
