Second defeat on bounce

-

BANGOR City Men’s hockey team suffered a second defeat on the bounce as they lost 3-2 at Oxton 4s in Division Five South of the North West League.

Alex Bath put City one up within five minutes after he terrified the home defence with a typical slaloming run before slamming home a neat finish.

The Wirral-based hosts soon gained some momentum though and bagged two goals in quick succession to turn the match on its head.

In a very evenly contested second period, Bangor created a number of openings, while at the other end goalkeeper Tudur Trenholme pulled off a string of great saves to keep the Welsh visitors in touch.

Teenage talent Gwion Jones capped another encouraging display by setting up Dave Paterson, who finished with aplomb to draw Bangor back level.

However, with five minutes remaining, Oxton dealt the killer blow with a third goal that defied the unsighted Trenholme, to secure all three points.

Hard lines again for City, whose next game is at home to Chester 4s this Saturday at the Brailsford Centre 3G, pushback 2.15pm.

This will be another tough game for the Citizens, with Chester currently lying second in the table.

The Deva team have won their last three, notching up 10 goals and conceding just one.

The only blot on their record is a surprise 8-1 reverse at Llandudno.

Bangor are in sixth place at present, with a record of three wins and three defeats.
