Bruce Jones plays asylum inmate:

A former soap star swapped the Street for a strait jacket to star in an Anglesey rock band’s new music video.

North Wales actor Bruce Jones - who portrayed lovable lout Les Battersby in Coronation Street - plays an asylum inmate in the footage for Straight Jacket Legends’ new single She’ll Never Be Mine.

In one scene Jones, now living in Conwy, is filmed ‘moshing’ alongside the band’s fans while elsewhere in the clip, he can be seen being ‘treated’ by a warped nurse.

The song also features the vocals from Brendan B Brown, the lead singer of the American rock band Wheatus who shot to global fame in 2000 with their hit track Teenage Dirtbag.

Dan Morgan Jones, who plays bass guitar in the Holyhead band - which also features brothers Jake, Tommy and Caine Jones-Williams - said filming had been an amazing experience.

“We were approached by Lee Howard who runs a production company called Canned Media, who are based in Prestatyn, and he had some fantastic ideas he wanted to pitch,” he added.

“Filming took around 13 hours, back in August, but we had a blast! Some of our fans are even featured as extras.

“Canned Media supplied Bruce Jones, he was fantastic to work with and we had such a laugh.

“In the video, he wears a strait jacket as a bit of a nod to the name of our band, and as the LP’s called Go Bananas, so naturally we had to have someone dressed up as a banana too!”

He added: “The link-up with Wheatus came about thanks to a mutual friend, and they’ve performed in Holyhead twice over the past few years, to a great response.

“They recorded their parts in the States, and we did ours at the Ferlas recording studio in Penrhyndeudraeth, with both coming together during the mixing process.

“We’re really pleased with how it turned out though.”

The release of the video is one of the highlights in what has been a whirl- wind few months for Straight Jacket Legends.

The pop-punk group, who started life as a bedroom project in Holyhead, recently signed a distribution deal which has seen their album ‘Go Bananas’ hit the shelves in music shops across Japan and the US.

The record is now being sold alongside LPs from legendary acts such as Blink-182, Green Day and Sum 41.

“The response we’ve had in Japan, and the USA, had been phenomenal,” added Daniel.

“It’s been a crazy few months, but we’re hopeful of going out on tour in both countries sometime next year.

“To even be named in the same breath as some of these bands is a dream come true.”
