YOUTH POD OPENS UP
Safe space for kids:
LAST week saw the official opening of Holyhead’s Youth Pod.
The centre, situated on Market Street at the former FADS store, is a Môn CF project and funded by the People’s Health Trust.
It’s been designed to provide a safe and accessible social gathering place for young people living in Holyhead and the surrounding areas.
The Pod is free to attend, and offers the young people opportunites to pursue their own interests in various activities, such as music workshops, performing, film making and cooking.
The Pod also has a café area where the young people volunteer and make and serve hot and cold snacks to its members, with the centre open 3:15pm until 6.30pm Monday to Friday for youths in school years 8 and above.
Youth Team Manager, Andrew Williams, said: “We’ve been open since August and believe the success of the project so far can be attributed to the lengthy consultation process we held within the community, working with the young people of Holyhead at every stage in relation to the design and what they felt they wanted to have happen in the project.
“This is a unique project and unlike anything else in the area. Different to a Youth Club, we operate more as a café that allows it members to fully get involved in the running of all aspects of the project, from working the café to organizing special events.”
