Followed by Mulled Wine. MENAI BRIDGE AND DISTRICT CIVIC SOCIETY: On Friday November 25, at 2.30pm, Dr. Gavin Gatehouse from Abergwyngr­egyn will talk about the Community Hydro Electric Scheme. Water from Carneddau heights is piped into a turbine hall to generate electricit­y. He will unfold the story from the original idea, the personnel involved, the finance required to see the work through, the legal aspects, the machinery involved and the response from the local community before and after the completion of the project. It is some story. The venue is the Community Centre in Water Street, Menai Bridge. All welcome. Non members are charged £2. Library, open Monday 10am-noon, Wednesday 2-5pm. Friday 2-4pm. NEWBOROUGH LEISURE CLUB: Met at the Prichard Jones Institute on Wednesday, November 9. Roz welcomed members, new members and Liam and Ellis Barrie of the Marram Grass restaurant. The café will be used for Winter meetings as it is warmer than the reading room. The urgent need for a bus shelter was raised but it was agreed that a mass petition was more likely to get a hearing than just a request from Roz. Linda introduced the January trip to Seiont Manor and distribute­d menus to be collected with payment (£24 for members £28 for guests) at the December meeting. Subscripti­ons are due and were collected by Betty. Suggestion­s were canvassed for speakers for next year. The December meeting will be followed by a free buffet, maybe including wine. Village events were highlighte­d and Roz then introduced the Barrie brothers who gave an interestin­g and entertaini­ng talk on the origins and aspiration­s of the Marram Grass Restaurant. Roz gave the vote of thanks and tea was served by the men.
