Boss demands ruthless streak

- by Dave Jones

BANGOR City manager Andy Legg believes his side must be more ruthless in front of goal if they are to upset in-form Cardiff Metropolitan in the Welsh capital this Saturday (2.30pm).

The students, fifth in the Welsh Premier, have won their last five home league games, while the Citizens are seeking a third straight success on their travels,

When the teams met in early October, Bangor triumphed 2-1.

Last Sunday saw City maintain a three-point lead in third place after a 2-1 victory at Newtown.

“In patches some of our football was outstanding,” said Legg. “The only criticism would be we were not ruthless enough in front of goal; we had several chances to put the game to bed.

“It was a similar situation against Carmarthen and Bala recently where we didn’t kill them off and they robbed a point off us. We should be four points better off. That’s gone now, but in the future we need to start punishing teams.”

Legg expects a difficult test against a Cardiff Met side which struggled at the start of the campaign but are now really starting to motor.

“It’s going to be a very difficult game,” said the Citizens chief. “We’ll need to stamp our authority and get off to a better start than we did at Newtown.”

The Robins took a seventh minute lead through a Shane Sutton header, but brilliant finishes two minutes apart from Henry Jones and Brayden Shaw put the visitors ahead.

After that City had the better of things and only the heroics of home keeper Dave Jones kept them at bay before a late Newtown revival could have brought them an equaliser.

Speaking about Bangor’s bad start, Legg said: “It was a good header, a good set-play. Sometimes you’ve got to give the opposition credit.

“We showed a great deal of character to come back, we played some good attractive football and the two goals were fantastic. The movement for the second goal was unbelievable – little short, sharp passes, give and go’s, and a great finish.

“At 2-1 we thought the next goal would be vital and if we got it we could settle down, but it never came, they had a good spell and put us under a lot of pressure, but we dealt with it really well.

“I was absolutely delighted to come here and get three points.”
