Bangor strike back to seal the double

-

BANGOR City completed a season’s double over Newtown as they recovered from conceding an early goal at Latham Park to win 2-1.

In the seventh minute a Newtown corner was met by the head of Shane Sutton and hooked away from the goal-line by Damien Allen, but the linesman adjudged the ball to have gone in and the Robins had their lead.

Bangor gradually got on top as the first half wore on, as Henry Jones and Brayden Shaw notched a quick-fire double.

In the 25th minute Jones scored an stunner of a goal that rifled in off the post,

Soon after Shaw lashed in a beauty after some slick build-up to turn the tables.

There was a let-off for Bangor just before the break when Neil Mitchell headed wide from close range.

Newtown came out flying in the second half, looking to pull themselves back on level terms, but it was the Citizens who came closest to notching the next goal as Danny Gosset fed a great cross into the box towards substitute Daniel Nardiello, who had a free header, but he could only nod over.

Ryan Kershaw could have made it 2-2 after 77 minutes as he powered forward towards the City back-line and forced a superb save out of Connor Roberts in the away goal.

Bangor should have put the game beyond the home side right at the death, as Henry Jones was inches away from slotting home a Jamie Reed cross, but the victory was secured regardless as the Citizens reopened their three-point lead over Bala Town which had been shut following The Lakesiders’ win over Aberystwyth on Friday night.

Bangor City’s Under-19 Welsh Development League champions won 5-0 at Cefn Druids.
