No excuses from boss after Met misery

-

BANGOR City manager Andy Legg pulled no punches after his team’s dismal display in last Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Cardiff Met.

And the Citizens chief will expect a whole lot better when the fourth-placed all-Blues welcome Carmarthen Town to the Bangor University Stadium this Saturday (2.30pm).

Seeking a sixth straight home win, the students, newly-promoted to the Welsh Premier this season, led 3-0 through an Elliot Evans hat-trick before former Bangor youngster John Littlemore capped a miserable day for his ex-club with a fourth.

Legg said: “We didn’t win one single battle. The performance was poor, we lacked ideas, showed no passion, no endeavour - we were absolutely awful.

“We’ve had bad days before but not that bad and there’s no excuses for it.”

City, who will again be without the influential Gary Roberts through suspension this weekend and have injury doubts over one or two others, will be told in training this week that a repeat showing of what happened at Cyncoed will not be tolerated.

Legg added: “We’ll train a few times this week, no question about that. We’ll scratch our heads, put it down as a bad one and hopefully we won’t get another one.

“The players weren’t up for it; we were out-thought, out-fought, out-battled, we were second best at everything and not one player came out with any credit.”

Better news for City emerged as the Under-19s progressed to the FAW Youth Cup quarter-finals after a 4-1 thrashing of Airbus at Nantporth on Sunday.

On 25 minutes Shaun Cavanagh’s perfectly struck free kick flew into the far corner of the Airbus net.

The Wingmakers levelled on 41 minutes soon after rattling the crossbar, but before the interval the lively Harry Galeotti restored City’s lead with a firm finish.

The Citizens advantage was extended in the 83rd minute when Cai Owen made inroads down the right flank and his cross from the byline was volleyed home in some style by Cavanagh.

And Cavanagh completed his hat-trick with a late penalty.
