Zorbing centre is set to be refused
PROPOSALS to build a zorb centre on the banks of the Menai Strait are set to be turned down by planners, amid fears over its impact on the area.
Zorb Snowdonia, had submitted a bid for the centre, as well as a car park, on Holyhead Road, between Menai Bridge and Llanfairpwll.
But the move raised the wrath of many locally, with a public meeting in September attracting around 100 people, most of whom were opposed due to its location in an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB).
Anglesey Council officers are now recommending that the planning committee turns down the application during its meeting this afternoon (Wednesday).
The centre, which would see people roll down a hill in a giant plastic ball, would also include a reception centre, vehicle access and parking space for ten cars.
Officers are also concerned over the demolition of part of a historic stone wall, which would then be rebuilt a few metres away.
Council chiefs had received 117 letters against the proposal with 28 in favour, mainly highlighting the positive economic impact and the possibility of new jobs.
The objections mainly centred around the visual impact and an increase in traffic, with both Menai Bridge Town Council and Llanfairpwll Community Council also opposed to it being built.
