Bangor need a result to stay in race for Europe

-

BANGOR City badly need a result at Carmarthen Town on Saturday to stay in the race for European football.

The Citizens are fourth in the Welsh Premier League table following last weekend’s 4-0 thrashing at The New Saints, a result which clinched a sixth successive title for Craig Harrison’s men.

Bangor had several regulars missing through either injuries or suspensions, but it is hoped some of those absent will be available for the trip to west Wales.

City veteran Gary Taylor-Fletcher insists the next three matches are far more important than last week’s visit to Park Hall.

Carmarthen Town (away), Bala Town (home) and Gap Connah’s Quay (a) pose the forthcoming tests.

“We were down to the bare bones,” said Taylor-Fletcher after the TNS loss. “We only really had 11 first-team players and three young kids on the bench.

“Even some of the ones out there shouldn’t have played due to injuries.

“Just before half time was a horrible time to concede a goal and that killed us really.

“We can see why TNS are full time - and that’s what we’re striving for.

“We’ve got to pick ourselves up, we’ve three massive games coming up that are going to define our season.”

He added: “I hate to say it, but today was a free shot. The next three games are our big games.”

Bangor competed well with the Saints until Adrian Cieslewicz put the hosts in front just before half time.

Before that Taylor-Fletcher and Dan Nardiello forced Paul Harrison into fine saves, while City’s Connor Roberts performed marvels to twice deny Jamie Mullan.

Goals from Mullan (2) and Steve Saunders killed the contest after the break.
