DAD DIED OF ALCOHOL POISONING

-

A DAD-OF-FIVE found unconscious and bleeding near a main shopping street later died in hospital of alcohol poisoning.

Police initially feared the death of Peter Anthony Jones was suspicious after passers by led officers to an alleyway in Mount Street, Bangor.

Coroner Dewi Pritchard Jones told an inquest:

“There they saw a man lying on his back looking very unwell and unresponsive with members of the public carrying out CPR.

“The man had injuries to his face and police thought the incident was suspicious.”

Paramedics continued treating the 60-year-old but he was later pronounced dead at nearby Ysbyty Gwynedd.

Pathologist Mark Lord told the hearing the injuries to the face may have been caused by Mr Jones falling over.

He said a post-mortem examination revealed no sign of serious illness showed a high level of alcohol in the blood. Dr Lord said the level, the equivalent to four and a half times the legal limit for driving, would have poisoned him. “I’m satisfied he died of alcohol poisoning,” he said.

The coroner concluded Mr Jones, of Treborth Road, Bangor, died after abusing alcohol.

After his death in the early hours of July 2 last year, his eldest son, Timothy, said his father had celebrated his 60th birthday with the family a few weeks before.
