- Tom Davidson

AN Anglesey chef is to star in this year’s Great British Menu.

Ellis Barrie, head chef at The Marram Grass near Newborough, will be a competitor in the BBC cooking show.

Ellis, who won an Acorn award in June last year, will star in the 12th series to air later this year.

The restaurant is now looking for a new head chef for while he is away.

The judges on the BBC2 show will be Matthew Fort and Oliver Peyton, with tennis personalities Sue Barker, Tim Henman, Greg Rusedski and Judy Murray to guest judge as the show celebrates 140 years of the Wimbledon Championships.

Ellis runs the popular eaterie at the White Lodge Caravan Park with his brother Liam. Earlier this month the Barrie brothers received planning permission from Anglesey council to expand the restaurant.

The latest series of the Great British Menu will be hosted by Andi Oliver, after former presenter Prue Leith was announced as a judge on The Great British Bake Off after it moved to Channel 4.

Some of the UK’s most renowned chefs have taken part on the show, including Tom Kerridge, Angela Hartnett, Richard Corrigan and Michael O’Hare.

Ellis will compete against Paul Askew, from The Art School in Liverpool, and Tom Parker, from The White Swan in Lancashire.
